TEN Worcester Mixed Ability Rugby team players have been selected to compete in a world competition in August.

James Swain, Nick Lee, Karl Bates, Adam Free, Adam Law, Owen Fox, Tom Reeves, Dan Heritage, Simon Fitzgerald and Ian Wareing will head to the International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament in Bilbao, Spain.

They all play for Worcester's fully-inclusive team who play contact and non-contact rugby in the same game.

The players are looking for individual sponsorship to help them make the tournament, which runs from August 21 until 25, where they will be joined by another local team Shropshire Stags.

Free said: "The opportunity to play a sport that has embraced you on the biggest possible stage is a huge honour and one the whole team are excited about.

"Some of the boys never thought they would play rugby, let alone play in a world cup."

Law said: "This is a really great cause which allows anybody to play rugby no matter what their ability or disability.

"We will be taking a mix of players from Worcester — six able-bodied players and a further four who are unable to make or take contact."

They have set up a fundraising page at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/adam-law and organised an event on Friday, June 23.

The battle of the bands fundraiser will be at Worcester Rugby Club, Pershore Lane, at 7pm and costs £10 per person including food.
