THERE was home success for Worcester Athletic Club runners at their Bulmers Bash contest.

Following heavy overnight rain and a short cloud burst 10 minutes before the off it proved an ideal day for running the annual race around Bulmers orchards at Wichenford.

One hundred runners set out on the hilly, demanding course with athletes from all around the Midlands, Lincolnshire, Hereford and Wales as well as two from Chichester.

Conditions made the attempt at a new record difficult as the surface was slippery underfoot in places following the rain.

Iain Porter from CLC Striders, Cheltenham, completed the course in 40 minutes nine seconds to win the men's race.

Adam Pollock from Worcester was second in 41.04.

The first woman was Worcester's Emma Robertson in 46.04 with the 2016 victor Sarah Kellett from Black Pear Joggers claiming second place.

All competitors received a bottle opener and bottle of cider from Bulmers.

A £100 donation to the Midlands Air Ambulance was made from the proceeds of the race.
