WORCESTER Triathlon Club held their second race of the season at the University of Worcester Lakeside Campus.

Competitors had the choice of two distances and more than 150 athletes took part with most opting for the longer option.

The male and female winners of the double distance were Oliver Wallace from Manchester Triathlon Club in two hours 39 minutes five seconds and Corinne Moss, of Stratford’s The Cycle Studio, in 2.52.43 respectively.

They tackled a 1,500-metre open-water swim, a 54-kilometre bike section and a 10km run.

James Richards (1.19.06) and Emma Wyatt (1.37.50), both of Hereford Triathlon Club, were the sprint winners over a 750m open-water swim, 27km bike section and 5km run.

Racing got under way at 7.50am and conditions were perfect for the competition with bright sunshine but it was not too hot.

An undulating bike course took in scenic roads through Great Witley, Martley and Broadheath with a fairly stiff climb involved.

The off-road run was on a flat 2.5km course within the confines of the university campus with a bank on each lap.

Finishing times extended to 4.23 for the double and 2.12 for the sprint.

Worcester have one more race this season with the Droitwich Triathlon on Sunday, July 23, which consists of a 400m pool swim, 20km bike section and 5km run.

The club also hold open-water swimming sessions every Wednesday and Saturday through the summer at Upton Warren near Droitwich plus year-round pool swimming.
