EVESHAM Rowing Club duo Debbie Staite and Sophie Evans tasted success at the Worcester Regatta.

The talented pair were among a small squad of senior rower from the Evesham club who contributed to an exciting day of top-class racing on the River Severn.

Staite and fellow club rower Evans each took away a winners’ tankard from the regatta .

Evans was fresh from her silver medal success the previous weekend when she teamed up with Gilly Russell in the Junior Sculling Regatta at Dorney Lake, the venue for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic rowing competitions.

Earlier in the day at Worcester, Staite had raced in a four with Nicky Perry, Amanda Baker and Tracy Stapleton coxed by Rosie Macdonald.

Thy missed out on progressing to the final after close battle with Stourport in their semi-final showdown.

Evesham’s Dave Pollard was unlucky to be beaten by a Bewdley rower in his final.

Kate Racki and Abi Terry also made it to the final but were beaten by home club Worcester.

Carol Lovelock and Liz Stranks also progressed to the final but were beaten by a strong crew from rivals Hereford.

The Evesham quad of Racki, Macdonald, Baker and Terry also performed well but lost to a well-rested crew from Cheltenham Ladies College.
