HALFWAY House angler Colin Bradley recorded his first win of the club’s new season on Church Farm pool when he put four hefty carp onto the scales.

From peg 28 Bradley found his opening pole line at nine metres unproductive so a change to meat into the margins produced carp to 19lb which together with his three other fish gave him an unbeatable top weight of 39lb 0oz 0dr.

Consistent Andy Maybury came second with a small carp and silver fish net of 28-8 from peg 14 while Keith Deaner was third with 18-8 and current club champion Steve Williams finished fourth with 9-0.

The next Halfway House club contest is on the same venue on June 4.

Worcester canal record holder John Moloney returned to winning ways in the Swan contest on the Staffs/Worcs canal at Hinksford.

The match was dominated by skimmer bream with Moloney taking a brace of 2lb fish along with smaller samples to a pinkie and groundbait combination for 8-12.

Runner-up was Mick Samson who netted eight skimmers on punch and worm going 7-7-15.

Jamie Smith took third with 6-10-4 while in fourth with a hemp-caught roach net of 6-8 came Sue Jaques.

The Worcester canal at Tibberton sees the next club fixture on June 4.

Commercial specialist Matt Barnes showed his class to win the first Whitehall club contest of the year on Woodland View’s Arles pool.

Tackling peg 12 with a pellet feeder along with a shallow pole approach Barnes put an all-carp net, consisting of fish to double figures, onto the scales for a top weight of 74-4.

Stuart Cholerton came second with a mainly skimmer net of 52-8 on maggot from peg nine to narrowly beat Mike Spragg’s 52-2.

Section winners were Mick Watling and Darren Bryant.

The WDUAA open on the Birmingham and Worcester Canal between bridges 15 and 17 at Perdiswell was won by Worcester's Les Sanders from permanent peg 44 with 31-1.

Gary Owen (Kidderminster) followed with 22-6 from peg 62 with Mick Sampson (Worcester) and Neil Turner joint third with 4-11.

Section A went to Garry Clarke (Worcester) with 3-8 and B to Anthony Taylor (Malvern) 3-12 ahead of Paul Turner with 3-10.

All anglers are welcome to fish the next WDUAA canal open on Thursday, June 1.
