YOUNG Leighton Hine returned to form after injury by winning the Stephen Misters Memorial at Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park Golf Club.

Hine won in style at the Worcester course having carded 61 nett with birdies on the second, fifth and 15th holes along with six pars.

With just one double bogey on the 13th his winning score resulted in a two-shot handicap reduction from 15 to 13.

Among 38 players Steve Williams (6 handicap) carded birdies on the second, 12th, 13th, 17th and 18th plus nine pars and just four bogies for second spot with 62.

Williams also earned a handicap reduction to five.  Later starter Adrian Tinker (15) brought home 64 to take third.

A birdie on the ninth and eight pars kept him in the chase but after 29 on the front nine Tinkler carded two double bogies on the way home though his handicap went down to 14.

John Griffiths (8) returned 66 which had him top of the leaderboard for some time.

But he took fourth on countback ahead of Mike Sanders after a birdie on the seventh, 12 pars and one double bogey on the fifth.

Persistent rain and a miserable morning in prospect resulted in half the field pulling out, leaving just 16 to contest round three of the Presidents Trophy.

There was little wind to further disrupt proceedings and Norman Vernalls returned to form with victory to cut his handicap from 16 to 15.

Vernalls scored 64 nett with birdies on the second and ninth and eight pars despite three double bogies on par threes and a triple on the 15th.

Geoff Jones (21) finished second on countback with 67 after just four pars and dodgy holes with double bogies or worse.

With net 31 on the back nine Jones went ahead of tied finisher Mick Huggins who had 35 on the way in.

Huggins (16) had a birdie on the second, four pars and double bogies on the fourth and 14th.

Jan Schutte (17) took fourth on countback after returning 70 and finishing tied with Steve Baylis.

Schutte’s 24 on the back nine took the place ahead of Baylis’ 25.  David Brace (23) returned 41 points to win the midweek stableford by seven.

His three pars left him reliant on shots in hand but just three double bogies took the edge off.

John White (14) brought home 34 and finished tied with Martin Hucker but with a better back nine of 17 he snatched the higher place on countback.

Four pars were hampered by two double bogies but White climbed up the leaderboard.

Hucker (13) was third by virtue of his 16 haul on the back nine,  having dropped in eight pars.

Triple bogies on the seventh and 12th and a double on the 10th proved damaging.

Mike Ransom (21) carded 32 to take fourth on countback after finishing tied with Schutte.

Ransom carded 19 on the way home as Schutte only managed 16 over the same distance.

Six pars for Ransom took a hammering when he also lapsed with three double bogies, two triple bogies and two quadruples.
