COLWALL slipped back into the bottom four of the Worcestershire League Division One table after suffering a 51-run setback at Bewdley.

Batting first, Bewdley began cautiously, scoring 64 off 17 overs before Nick Wilkinson edged behind to Ben Wheeler on 19 off Dan Newby.

Johnno Gooch clean bowled Connor Franklin and when he had Harris caught by James Abel (52) out of 114-3, Colwall were still well in the contest.

But Rob Combes and Gareth Lewis swung the initiative in Bewdley’s favour.

Colwall’s bowling also became wayward as 44 extras were conceded, 28 of them wides. Combes went on to reach a solid 87 before an edge behind gave Gooch his third wicket at 227-4.

Abel then took another catch off Mike Gooch to send back Lewis for 34 but the damage was already done.

Colwall’s reply began promisingly as Joe Blight and Nick Panniers put on 71, but from then on Bewdley bowlers Jack Mills (4-50) and Josh Freestone (4-36) started to dictate.

Blight was out for 56 at 132-5 and although the tail rallied briefly it was all over in the 46th over.

Colwall host Burghill, Tillington & Weobley tomorrow (1pm).

In contrast, Colwall seconds encountered few problems as they trounced Bewdley by nine wickets in their home Second XI Division One clash.

Bewdley struggled against the pace of Fergus Cameron (4-23) as they were bowled out for 138.

Idris Mohammed scored an aggressive 55 and Ali Pearce hit 66 as victory was sealed in the 22nd over.

However, the thirds saw their three match winning run ended as they suffered a 188-run defeat at Luctonians.

They crashed to 42 all out in pursuit of a home total of 230. Finn Milton (3-32), Chris Pearce (2-41), Toby Clifford (2-43) and Gary Nicholson (2-28) were among the wickets for Colwall, whose response turned into a debacle, with only Ali Martin (15) reaching double figures.

Colwall secured their second win in the under 19 T20 Trophy as they eclipsed Bromyard by 74 runs.

Ali Pearce (51), Fergus Cameron (30), Mike Gooch (31) and Ben Febery (29) were among the runs as Colwall piled up 180-7 batting first.

Febery (4-25), Cameron (2-11) and Will Butler (2-13) then shared the wickets.
