PERSHORE Phoenix Dragon Boat Racing Club are hosting a free have-a-go day for the sport in Evesham on Sunday.

People will be able to get involved at Crown Meadow from 10.30am until mid-afternoon.

They can get into a dragonboat and have a go at paddling in a team.

A club spokesman said: “Everyone is welcome. If you have no experience that is perfectly OK.

“If you like rafting, kayaking, canoeing or other water sports then it is likely you’ll love this.

“Dragon boat paddling is social and a great way to improve fitness and very good cross training if you like other ways of keeping/getting fit.”

Buoyancy aids and paddles can be borrowed but participants are asked not to wear jeans.

Pershore also compete in the BDA National League and in September are entering the Great River Race on the Thames.

Over the last few years some members paddled the Vogalonga in Venice and the Henley Winter Series.

Two members are in the Great Britain squad.

Local paddling trips are held along the River Avon from Defford to Pershore.
