DROITWICH swimmer Matt Richards bagged a gold medal at the School Games National Finals.

The 14-year-old won the boys' 100-metre butterfly in his age group at Loughborough University.

The Royal Wolverhampton School pupil was part of the England Central squad and finished first in 57.73 seconds.

Richards said: “Getting to know all the other athletes at the games has been great. I’ve really enjoyed meeting other teams and competitors.”

Around 1,600 athletes competed across 12 sports including seven disability disciplines.

The four-day event was supported by National Lottery funding from Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust.
