DAVE Turner claimed the bragging rights in The Worcestershire Golf Club's Meredith Cup after a ding-dong battle with Chris Jolley.

The final of the individual matchplay tournament was fought out over 36 holes of nip-and-tuck golf with Turner's composure on the back nine proving decisive.

Despite giving five strokes to his opponent, Jolley got off to a flying start to lead by three after the first 18 and five after 22 before the two titans began to trade blows.

Turner then started to make good use of his received shots to shift the momentum in his favour and by the 32nd hole, the match was all square as Jolley holed a long putt for a half.

A superb tee shot by Jolley on the short 33rd resulted in a conceded birdie and restored his lead but an uncharacteristic three-putt on 34 again levelled the match.

From there, Turner turned on the after burners to birdie the par-five 35th and lead for the first time, following it with a solid par on 36 to secure victory by two holes. The losing semi-finalists were Rob Schooling and Mark Roberts.

The Rose Bowls Mixed Foursomes final was another closely-contested match with Roger and Jill Brierly beating and Paul and Diane Meakin by two.

The Brierlys bagged an early birdie which created a one-hole lead that was maintained into the back nine where the gap got increased to three.

A rousing comeback by the Meakins saw them win the 15th and then narrow the gap to one as Diane sank a 25-foot putt for a birdie on the 16th.

A half on the 17th made for a very tight finish but the Brierlys held firm.

Jackie Marks and Julie Saunders won the ladies' Tankard Foursomes with a 3&1 win over Ali Tuck and Joan Herbert with Marks also winning the Silver Division Knockout against Diane Meakin.

In receipt of three strokes, Marks went three up after nine holes and was five to the good after 12. Meakin won the 14th and 15th but ran out of holes when Marks took the 16th en route to a 4&2 triumph.
