JANET Adsett has given herself a chance of being selected for the 2018 ETU European Triathlon Championships in Glasgow.

The Malvern Triathlon Club member gave it her best shot at Thorpe Park Sprint Triathlon which was a qualifying event for the age group championships.

It was her first taste of competing in such a highly competitive environment where every second counts.

But she produced a good performance as she came within the required 120 per cent of the winner in her category.

Adsett completed the swim in 16 minutes 12 seconds, bike 41.01 and run 26.30.

Elsewhere, Chris Isherwood, Clifford Berry, David Dutton all competed in the Newent Sprint Triathlon, comprising of a 400m swim, 18K bike and 4k run.

Berry came first in his age group, finishing in 59.23, while Isherwood did it in 1.00.07 and Dutton in 01.03.10, knocking four minutes off his 400m swim time in the process.

Wayne Qualter and Roy Hart ventured to north Wales to compete in Sandman, aptly named for its run across Newborough Beach.

This was the last of a trio of events hosted by Always Aim High.

Qualter competed in all three and left his best performance until last.

He completed the 1000m sea swim in 25.30, the 36.5-mile undulating bike ride in 1.50.38 and the 10K run in one hour, giving an overall finish time of 3.21.38. Qualter finished mid-field in his age group.

Hart came third in his category after completing it in 3.26.09, including a 29.38 swim, 01.54.43 bike ride and 55.43 run.

Closer to home, Lorraine Brooks, Clive Brooks and Sheila Sheringham all took part in the Worcester 10k.

There was also a strong turnout from the club in support of the Tour of Britain.
