A GOOD turnout for the midweek Upton match on the River Severn saw Boughton matchman Bill Hartland come out on top with a stick float-caught weight of small fish.

With the river carrying around 15 inches of extra water most of the anglers tackled the swollen river with a feeder set-up for bream.

But Hartland approached peg 36 on the Ham waters with his favourite stick float and maggot combination to take small roach, dace and bleak, together pulling the scales around to a match-winning weight of 8lb 6oz 0dr.

Runner-up John Halfpenny netted a skimmer early on the feeder before targeting bleak on his peg 30 to weigh in 6-4.

Third place went to Len Merrell with a whip-taken 5-10 to beat Richard Blight’s peg 16 skimmer net of 4-8.

The following club contest found the river even higher with Andy Hay netting a brace of good bream on the feeder going 12-10.

One bream and a skimmer got second for Mark Taylor who weighed in 7-12 while in third came Halfpenny with just 3-12.

Nick Vaughan won the WDUAA contest on the canal at Blanquettes when he put three caster chub and a few hemp-caught roach onto the scales weighing 11-9.

Second went to Jamie Smith with 7-9 and third Les Sanders with 6-0.

Carl Graham again showed his preference for carp waters when he won a close Whitehall AC contest at Hawford Fisheries with 80-6 of fish-caught shallow on pellet and corn.

Just behind in second came Darren Bryant with a maggot-taken 79-12 to beat Matt Barnes who weighed in 72-12 for third.

Section prizes went to Vic Watling, Dean Grubb and Stuart Cholerton.
