WORCESTER'S young prospects enjoyed victories in various cups.

The girls' under 18s won their area cup semi-final 48-0 against Oswestry.

It was not Worcester’s best display with handling errors and penalties conceded.

They have plenty to improve on for the area final against Ellesmere.

Worcester, who beat rivals Winscombe in a friendly for the first time in years the previous week, defended robustly early on against Oswestry.

The breakthrough came when Worcester countered through Dijana Clarke, Maddie Rendell, Abbie Smitheman and eventual try-scorer Niamh Massam-Vallely.

Rendell, standing in for the injured Charlie Manns, converted.

Further tries came from Clarke and Rendell to make it 19-0 at half-time.

After the break a drive got Beth Snape over the line followed by a line-breaking run by Connie Bradshaw to score.

Replacement Leah Teague ran in a try on the right wing and another forwards drive propelled Smitheman over with the final score added to by Rendell.

The boys were also in action with the colts beating Weston Hornets 70-19 in the National Under 18s Cup.

Worcester Vipers defeated Evesham 38-10 to reach the North Midlands Under 14s Cup semi-finals.

Alex Terry found a gap to score under the posts before Toby Jones collected a kick and surged down the line to score in the corner.

Worcester recovered the ball from the second-half restart and drove into the Evesham 22 with a long pass allowing Cam Richardson to race over.

Ben Williams produced direct, powerful runs while Seb Dear drove the ball on only to be held inches short of the line.

Terry took a quick penalty, popping the ball to Jones who ran in for his second try.

Evesham responded but a strong Worcester scrum gave Alex Jones a solid base to pick and go, crossing the line.

Worcester worked the ball quick along the backline and Tyrese Semper burst around the outside to score by the posts.

Evesham managed a late consolation.

Worcester Spartans under 16s also reached the North Midlands Cup semi-finals with a 33-15 win over Newport.

They were 10-7 down at half-time after the sides traded converted tries following a Newport penalty.

Darian Murray smashed through for Worcester with Austin Ruddock adding the extras.

With three replacements and a reconfigured pack, Worcester exploded into the second half with two quick converted tries by John Lilley and Ruddock.

Newport ran in a second try but tiring legs allowed Worcester’s James Mann and Jazz Whitfield to grab two more tries.

The cup semi-finals are on April 15 for both age groups.
