TWO of McDonald’s Worcester and District League’s most coveted trophies will be renamed after past members of their management committee.

The ‘Fair Play’ trophy, awarded to the team with the best disciplinary record during the season, will now be known as the ‘Ted Gerard-Thesingh Fair Play Trophy’. The name is in memory of the league’s ex registration secretary, who served in that post from 2002 to 2014 and passed away in March last year.

Current league secretary Tim Phillips said: “Ted was an avid believer in fair play and would have been delighted to see his name attached to this trophy.”

Also being honoured is Brian Poyner, one of the league’s longest-serving club secretary’s, before his sudden death in January. The ‘Club Secretary of the Year’ trophy, chosen by officers of the league, will now be known as the ‘Brian Poyner Secretary of the Year Trophy.’

Phillips said: “Brian served numerous clubs in a secretarial role from the early nineties until his untimely passing. His name was synonymous with various Arrow FC teams and was highly respected throughout the league.”

Members of their two families will present the relevant trophies at the league’s annual general meeting on June 25.
