WORCESTER driver Marc Huxley won at the Festival of Power meeting at Santa Pod Raceway.

He triumphed against the odds at the Northamptonshire circuit in his father Brian's 1964 Mercury Comet two-door saloon car.

In bad weather on the new track surface, Huxley's class, the Hutchinson and Dibley Ltd Sportsman ET, was one of four that went through to the finals.

The Comet was made to go racing in the USA and had not been raced since his father shipped the car in last November.

Without any testing on the track and with the axle slipping a bit alongside other issues, Huxley had a lot to overcome but did it in style to win.

Dark Horse Racing colleagues Brian and Lee Huxley were there too with the Mustang but only got one run in due to the weather.

But it gave the duo a good idea of how the car was running and what to expect from the track.

The Huxley family were happy with the results, thanked their sponsors and they look forward to their next race meeting at Santa Pod from May 18 until 20.

Meanwhile, the Renault Clio Cup got under way with a podium for Worcester-born Daniel Rowbottom and Cataclean Racing.

On the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, the Team Pyro driver impressed in practice but could only qualify ninth and eighth for the two races.

But Rowbottom raced up to third in the first contest before dropping down to 10th in the second race on a wet track.

After going fifth in the standings, he said: "Getting decent points on the board on the first weekend is important so I’m satisfied with the result.”
