MALVERN A just lost out to Worcester's Old Vigornians in Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League Worcester Division Two.

The match between Worcester Nomads A and B in Division One was cancelled as the club were unable to raise teams.

This leaves the runners-up spot between Avoncroft and Droitwich with Spa needing to win against Nomads A to clinch a place in the county finals.

OVs (116 all out) beat Malvern A (113-4) by three runs.

The city side compiled their runs in fits and starts but were gifted 23 in wides.

Chris Drew (28), James Underwood (25), Phil Mackie (18) and Elliott Turner (14) helped present Malvern with a reasonable target.

Jeremy Pilgrim was the pick of the bowlers with 3-18 while Rob Francis returned 0-18.

Losing a wicket in the second over did not help but Francis (48 not out) and Ollie Halion (25no) put together a stand which took Malvern past 60 at halfway without further loss.

With retirements and a few poor overs, they fell behind but were still in with an outside chance with an over to go needing 17 to win.    Malvern B (79 all out) lost to West Malvern (81-3) who went second in the table.

Pete O’Connell’s introduction to the West attack in the fifth over wrecked a steady if slow start to the Malvern innings.

He dismissed openers Connor Walwyn (15) and Ian Alley (24) with quick deliveries to end hopes of setting a decent total.

O’Connell returned 2-11 in three overs.

West struggled for fluency in reply and it was only with a ball to spare they passed the below-average target.
