IMPROVING catches greeted Droitwich Spa AC members as match secretary Mick Watson won their contest on the Stoke Works section of the Worcester to Birmingham canal.

Fancying bream to take the match, Watson set his stall out for a net of skimmers and was not disappointed when his caster over groundbait approach led him to net a number of samples in his 7lb 8oz 4dr winning catch.

Club star Chris Ballard had to be content with the runner-up prize when he too landed skimmers for a 5-12-9 total to beat Dave Lowe whose 4-8-6 catch claimed third prize.

Section money went to Mick Price and Mike Salcumbe.

Former Phoenix national man Keith Hunt continued his good form when he won the WDUAA open on the canal at Blanquettes Avenue with a small skimmer and roach net of 6-9.

All his fish fell for squatt and pinkie baits over groundbait feed.

Second went to Mick Samson with 6-0 while in third place was Les Sanders weighing 5-8.

Gary Rowberry (Sensas Droitwich Angling Centre) won the second round of the Droitwich Canal Spring League with a roach, perch and eel net going 5-12-4.

Second came Gary Clarke (Mossella) with 5-5-11 and third was Sue Jaques (Swan AC) with 5-4-6.

Section prizes went to Kane Woodfield, Lee Davey and Pete Morris.

The next round is on Sunday, April 29.
