THE prolific Martin Hill led top-of-the-table Bredon to a four-wicket victory over a battling Old Vigornians side at Peopleton after a scare.

Hill, who had scored two hundreds against OVs in recent seasons, scored a chanceless 98 not out as they overhauled a total of 208-9 with six overs remaining.

The Worcester side started well in Worcestershire League Division Two with an opening stand of 48 between James Arnold (6) and Osman Fiaz (43).

But wickets fell regularly and when skipper Alex Parker (29) was ninth out OVs were teetering on 160-9.

Teenagers George Fradgeley (17 not out) and Zain Hussain (12no) batted sensibly and added 48 runs for the final wicket for two batting points.

Bredon bowled 43 wides among 47 extras while Dom Fenney took 3-21.

After conceding 25 runs in the first two overs, Parker (3-55) turned to himself and Hussain for spin.

Hussain, 16, impressed with 2-24 on his first XI league debut.

At 103-5 the match was in the balance but with Hill batting confidently and the spinners bowled out Bredon made it home with relative ease on 212-6.

Without key players, OVs seconds lost by 101 runs at Netherton in Division Two.

Jawad Nazir (53), Arslan Iqbal (44no) and Muhammad Masood (67no) did the damage in 303-7 in 50 overs.

James Hayward-Meek and Tim Race each took two wickets and Elliot Turner claimed three catches.

Tony Meek made 42 in the reply alongside Turner (25) and Tim Waites (19) but OVs finished well short on 202-8.
