THE men and ladies competed for honours in the Mixed Charity Shield at Worcester's Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park.

Geoff Jones (23 handicap) took the honours with 40 points but female member Gerry Mclean (36) took second on countback from Dennis Morse (14) with both on 38.

Brian Hodgetts (21) was fourth on 36 from Phil Rowland on countback in the stableford which involved 41 players.

In tough conditions, Jones only claimed four pars but kept errors to a minimum with just three double bogies and one no-score as his handicap was reduced to 22.

Norman Vernalls and Joe Jackson (17.5) won the Foursomes Shield with 64.5 nett from Andy Turner and Tony Solomon (23) on 66.

Neil Harrison and Tom Gregory (19.5) were third on 68.5 with Tom Jenkins and Abraham Jenkins (18) fourth on 69.

Twenty-three pairs contested the honours and round two of the new Williams Challenge Cup. 

Vernalls and Jackson only had five pars but made good use of their team handicap to get ahead of the challenging pack.

The seniors' annual salver was won on countback by Dave Brace (20) from Steve Duggan (21) with both on 68 nett.

Jeff Ingleston (21) was third on 69 with Mick Huggins (18) fourth on 70 ahead of Dave Phillips and Andy Wood on countback on a cool morning involving 41 competitors.

Brace’s back-nine 32 gave him the win with just three pars in his round alongside a triple bogey on the fifth and doubles on four and 17.

Duggan managed 34 on the back nine.

The Sunday medal eclectic third round of 11 was claimed by Ian Theadgold (20) with 67 from Mark Purser (8) on 68.

Mark Keeling (9) edged third on countback from Adrian Day (7) with both on 69.

Threadgold carded six pars but also six double bogies.

In club matches, Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park lost 170-152 at Bromsgrove in the Worcestershire 17-24 Handicap League.

Jackson and Malcolm Dainty won 41-37 but Turner and Huggins lost 42-37, Bob Wood and Luke Gibbs 43-39, Dave Bradley and Bill Kelly 45-35 and Darren Cook and Rob Griffiths 40-35.

The city club fell 7-1 at Stonebridge in the West Midlands Scratch League.

Tommy Hayes won 2&1 but Richie Ryder lost 5&4, Steve Williams 3&2, Wayne Humphries 6&5, Purser 6&5, Day 5&4, John Griffiths 3&2 and Keeling one-down.
