Weston’s all-round effort is vital for city side


WORCESTER recorded a fine 45-run win over Old Vigornians in the Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League Monday Division at the Royal Grammar School.

The Norton-based side put together 131-4, boosted by a 56-run partnership between Liam Weston and Oli Peppiatt in the first four overs.

After three quick run-outs, Worcester added 59 in the last five overs with Weston scoring 37 not out, Peppiatt 33 and James Wagstaff 29no.

Weston took 2-14 as OVs staggered to 86-5 with Duncan Hughes (33no) and Arti Fiaz (21) top-scoring.

Droitwich Spa ‘C’ thumped Rushwick by six wickets after replying to the villagers’ 81-3 with 83-0 in the 10th over.

Gary Watkins (27no) and Ian Turner (17) gave Rushwick some hope as Spa bowled well with Ciaran Ginty taking 1-18.

In reply, Max Young followed up his previous match century with 27no alongside 20no from Peter Gurr and 14no by Rhys John.

Worcester Nomads ‘A’ beat their ‘C’ counterparts by 65 runs in the Sunday Division after dismissing them for 71.

Derek Austin (40), Darren Lakin (32) and Ben Schiffmann (29no) helped blaze 136-5 with Dave Pearson taking 2-28.

The ‘C’ side, without a win this season, offered resistance through Tom Webb (18) but Dannie Rees took 3-11, Schiffmann 1-9, Lakin 1-19 and Sean Jenkins 1-20.

RGS Worcester saw off Bromsgrove by 19 runs with Andy Curtis (26), Ali Pollock (26) and Oli Steele (20) powering them to 126 all out.

Ash Newdick took 2-26 and then scored 28 but Ed Pollock’s 1-14 helped dismiss the town side for 107.

In a low-scoring clash, Cutnall Green saw off Droitwich ‘B’ by 15 runs, scoring 91-5 and skittling Spa for 76.
