DROITWICH Spa produced their best performance of the season to win by nine wickets at Worcester Nomads in Worcestershire League Division One.

Neil Wright led them to victory with 118 not out, alongside Paul Bryan’s unbeaten 65.

Spa, without five first-choice players including captain Jerome Connor, lost the toss and stand-in captain Mike Rogers was asked to bowl first by former Droitwich player Steve Walsh.

In extreme heat, Rogers dismissed leading run scorer Sam Roberts with a short ball and Andy Fletcher took a fine catch behind the stumps to remove Sean Jenkins off Neil Davies.

When Dean Sanders (18) and Tareq Jamil (0) went, Nomads were in trouble at 63-4 in the 21st over.

However, Daniel Rees, another ex-Droitwich player, began to push the impetus towards a high total for the Nomads.

Rees ran hard and regularly picked up tight singles, while also hitting the boundary with ease.

With Jon Inglis at the other end, Nomads put on 130 for the fifth wicket until Martin Davies removed the former for 68.

Neil Davies came back into the attack and got the prize wicket of Rees (94), caught by Rogers. He then picked up two further wickets to end on 4-65 from 14 overs as Nomads finished on 250-8.

Martyn Davies (28) and in-form Wright opened the reply and put on 73 before the former was caught off Fredy Flason.

Paul Bryan was promoted to number three in the absence of Connor and battled hard.

Wright was aggressive with the short ball, pulling and cutting with intent and hit the boundary with ease.

Bryan chipped in with regular runs to help Spa’s total tick towards the 200-mark.

The impressive Wright brought up his first Saturday hundred for Droitwich with a gentle push through mid- wicket.

He then pushed on to win the game with six overs to spare to give Droitwich victory by nine wickets, finishing on 118 not out.

Bryan continued his good form with a half-century.
