Talent’s running in Mason family


THREE generations of women from one family won seven titles between them at Worcester Lawn Tennis Club.

Pat Mayo, her daughter Jan Mason and granddaughter Jo Mason all performed outstandingly at the finals day at the Northwick Close venue.

Mayo won three events, Jan Mason one and women’s singles champion Jo Mason three.

Jan and Jo Mason also combined to take the women’s doubles final 6-2, 7-6.

Despite the occasional rain shower, play was not stopped and the spirit from the players and numerous spectators was never dampened.

Results, men’s singles: Ben Tolhurst 6-1, 6-3; women’s singles: Jo Mason 6-4, 4-6, 6-2; men’s doubles: Keith Jefferies and John Wormington 6-2, 3-6, 7-6; women’s doubles: Jo Mason and Jan Mason 6-2, 7-6; mixed doubles: Jo Mason and Chris Langford 4-6, 6-3, 6-3; veterans men’s singles: Antony Jones 6-4, 6-3; veterans men’s doubles: Hasu Patel and Martin Fox 6-3, 6-2; veteran women’s doubles: Mayo and Pat Wood 6-0, 6-3; veteran mixed doubles: Mayo and John Wormington 6-0, 6-0; super veterans’ mixed doubles: Mayo and Ray Needham.
