HEREFORD United could hand a debut to on-loan striker Lyle Taylor in tomorrow’s League Two showdown against high-flying Cheltenham Town at Edgar Street (3pm).
The Bulls were keen to bolster their attacking options in a bid to climb clear of the League Two relegation zone and the 21-year-old, who has joined from Bournemouth for a month, fits the bill.
Taylor was a first-team regular at Dean Court earlier this season, scoring twice in a Carling Cup victory over Dagenham, but has fallen out of favour at the League One outfit.
Bulls manager Jamie Pitman said: “Lyle might start or he could be on the bench but he’s a goalscorer and has a good record. It was an area we wanted to improve.”
The Hereford boss hopes Taylor can be the catalyst to recording their first victory on home soil since October 22 when they beat Barnet 1-0.
Since then, United have gleaned only two points from a possible 21 at headquarters, including a 2-0 derby defeat to Shrewsbury two weeks ago.
Pitman said: “We have to make our home form better, it’s not good enough.
“We need to be harder to beat but have been unfortunate in home games and made individual errors.”
While Taylor is poised to line up against the promotion-chasing Rubies, the injury situation continues to bite.
Centre-half Stefan Stam (knee) is at least a week away from a return, while full-back Joe Heath and midfielder Simon Clist still struggle with groin problems.
Mark Yates’ Cheltenham are flying high in second spot and Tuesday’s 4-2 reverse at leaders Crawley was only their second league defeat since October 25, and their first away from home since September.
“They are a surprise package to people outside of the game but Mark has done a fantastic job and developed the squad,” Pitman added.
