HEREFORD United manager Richard O’Kelly insists new recruits James Chambers and James Baxendale will prove their worth.

The defender and winger arrived until the end of the season from Doncaster Rovers as the window for loan moves slammed shut.

Although both were available, neither featured in last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Crewe at Edgar Street with Chambers an unused substitute and Baxendale not even on the bench.

However, O’Kelly believes they will turn out to be good acquisitions in the Bulls’ quest to retain their Football League status.

“They will have as much opportunity as the rest,” said the United manager, who takes his League Two basement boys to Rotherham today (3pm).

“Chambers is an excellent professional.

“He will raise our level five per cent and if you have a performance like the one against Crewe with someone like him to come in, then it can only bode well for the future.

“Baxendale is a young player who you would probably not start straight away.

“But he is certainly a player who will push other people on the training ground and then, you never know, it might happen for him.”

O’Kelly said sending midfielder Harry Pell to Blue Square Bet Premier outfit Cambridge United for the rest of the campaign was the right move despite the 21-year-old having made 20 starts for the Bulls this term.

“At the moment we felt it was probably better for him to go out there and get some experience,” he added.
