MORE than 200 competitors braved soggy underfoot conditions to tackle the annual Pitchcroft 10k.
Hosted by Worcester Athletic Club, runners from across the country were faced with a saturated terrain, following the recent rain, but still managed some competitive times.
Oliver Harradence, from Royal Sutton Coldfield AC, won the event in 33 minutes, with Black Pear Joggers Darren Salisbury runner-up in 34.08.
A contingent from Malvern Joggers were led home by Nigel Sewell, who recorded 38.29 for 16th place, while Fee Maycock, of Belgrave Harriers, won the female race in 39.06.
Jonathon Holland was the first Worcester runner to cross the line in 40.58 for 36th position.
A fun run over 2.5km attracted 39 runners, capping a good turn-out for the popular event.
“It was very successful,” said organiser Mark Hill. “It was touch-and-go with the river right at our feet but luckily it was OK.
“We had a good competition and times. The fun run was also well received.”
As well as the open age group, runners also competed in age categories from over 35s to over 80s.
