WORCESTER boxer Michael Mooney returns to the ring for the first time in 2015 tomorrow night when he takes on Thomas Stalker at Liverpool's Echo Arena.

The lightweight bout, over six three-minute rounds, is on the undercard for the IBF world super-flyweight title fight between Zolani Tete and Paul Butler.

Mooney will be looking to put the disappointment of defeat to Ben Wager in an English lightweight title eliminator in November.

The Tolladine fighter was stopped by Wager in the fourth round at Barnsley's Metrodome, a decision Mooney's manager Mark Wall described as "ridiculous".

It was hoped that Mooney would next face a Midland title fight against Jamie Spence in Gloucester but there has been no word on that from his camp.

Prior to the Wager defeat, 29-year-old Mooney, who trains in his homemade gym, recorded a run of three victories against Matt Seawright, Sam O'Maison and Billy Morgan.

His triumph over O’Masion, which came via a knockout, featured on the undercard to the televised clash between Kid Galahad and Adeilson Dos Santos.

Mooney has a record of eight wins and 13 defeats since turning professional in 2013.
