HEAVY rain denied promoted Old Vigornians victory on the final day at Avoncroft in Worcestershire Cricket League Second XI Division Three.

The match was abandoned as a losing draw with the Worcester side on 102-2 needing 82 runs to win in 20 overs. 

Avoncroft were put into bat in bowler-friendly conditions and Mark Wood scored 80.

Captain Josh Cound smashed 26 including a six off James Hayward-Meek just before the same bowler removed his off stump.

The villagers were dismissed for 183 in the 36th over as Eliot Turner took another two victims to pass 40 in total for 2017.

There were two wickets each for Ivan Campbell-Ferguson, Phil Mackie and Dom Lee.

In reply Tony Meek and his son George added 76 for the first wicket before both fell quickly for 30 and 46 respectively and then the rain came.

OVs finished runners-up to champions Rushwick.

Bartestree and Lugwardine beat Stourport to secure third as Bredon lost heavily to Kempsey.

Redditch leapt from third place to the Division One summit and added to their first team’s top-flight title for a rare double.

They won comfortably at Colwall despite Damian Berry’s 6-54.

Previous leaders Feckenham were frustrated by the weather at Hagley and Stourport lost at Coombs Wood while Pedmore and Evesham were relegated.

Bewdley’s Chris Darby grabbed 8-28 to send Worcester reeling at 62 all out in a six-wicket success.

In Division Two Cookley needed to beat Droitwich and declared on 205-8 but Spa survived on 144-4 to claim a draw and the title.

Early leaders Belbroughton came third by beating Wormelow comfortably.

Division Four champions Himbleton skittled eight-man Hallow for 27 to win by 10 wickets in under three overs.

Runners-up Kidderminster won at Martley and Himley finished third on beating Alveley by four wickets.

Worcester were bottom despite six victories as they lost at Hanley Castle and Upton who were led by Will Barrell’s 86 and Ian Hobbs’ 7-13.

Old Elizabethans finished in the other relegation spot with defeat at improving Malvern.
