RUSS Cogger and Simon Gill won The Jubilee Bowls pairs on countback at Worcester Golf and Country Club.

Forty years ago Eric Rodway introduced the competition into the programme at the club.

Participants do not know who their partner will be until they turn up on the day.

Over the years the format has proved extremely popular with large numbers entering every year and 2017 was no exception.

Cogger (10 handicap) and Simon Gill (6) amassed 45 stableford points playing off ninety per cent handicaps.

They won on countback on the back six ahead of Dave Hawthorn (12) and Phil Smith (21).

Dave Hobbs (17) and Ian Savage (11) were third on 44 on countback ahead of Ken Roe (18) and Peter Webster (14).

Meanwhile, home club player Robin Harris won the seniors open with 40 points.

Second and third places went to Boughton Park members Gordon Bailey on 38 and Alan Courtney on 37 respectively.

Martin Field from The Worcestershire took the best visiting player prize with 36 on countback from Paul Davies of Gloucester and Trevor Hatt of Kidderminster.

The best over 75 prize went to Roger Chalky from Copt Heath.

Two nearest the pins were won by Roger Hughes and Mike Braddock from the hosts.

Ben Wadley (71 gross 6 handicap 65 nett) won the juniors' September medal well ahead of James Bishop (83-12-71).

Amber Haddon (91-19-72) was third with Adam Davis (94-20-74) fourth and Aaron Bryan (80-5-75) fifth.
