WORCESTER cricket club Old Vigornians held their end-of-season awards.

Osman Fiaz retained the Bailey Cup for player of the season after scoring more than 800 runs.

OVs firsts avoided relegation from Worcestershire League Division Two and the seconds got promoted from Division Three.

Alex Parker won the Meadows Cup for Sunday player of the season as the captain and leading run-scorer.  Eliot Turner claimed the Panter Shield as the club's leading wicket-taker with 41.

He was also the leading under 16 bowler in the Worcestershire League.

Turner beat off strong challenges from Zain Hussain, 15, Ed Burgoyne, 16, and James Hayward-Meek, 18.

Ed Burgoyne bagged the Mackie Cup for performance of the season after spells of 4-0 for the firsts and 5-10 for the seconds.

Club chairman Phil Mackie said: "The winners really deserved their awards but there were many other players who pushed them hard and who we must thank for what has been a very successful season.

"The three prize winners are under 21 and all of the other contenders were in the same age group which augurs well for the future."
