MALVERN Active are hosting a regional competition for West Midlands Modern Pentathlon on Saturday, December 30.

The laser run is one of four challenges on the day and newcomers to the sport are welcome to give it a go.

Firstly, they will need to get their laser shooting certificate to enter.

Anyone aged eight and over can go to Malvern Active, Thirlstane Road, on a Tuesday or Thursday from 7pm until 8pm to get their certificate and to train in the discipline which involves laser pistol shooting and running.

The sessions are run by growing club Pentathlon Hereford and taken by former Olympic and national pentathlon coach Bernie Moss.

The Hereford club are seen by Pentathlon GB as one of the biggest in Great Britain and at the heart of their national grassroots programme.

Hereford encourage all to get involved in multi-sport and largely have recreational athletes alongside a handful of budding Olympians.

They have recently launched their five-a-day activity programme.

There are training days on Wednesday, December 27, and Thursday, December 28, at Malvern Active in swimming, running and shooting, again run by Pentathlon Hereford.
