WORCESTER Vipers under 14s began their North Midlands Cup campaign with a 59-10 first-round win at Hereford.

From the Hereford kick-off into a cold wind, Worcester’s Alex Terry gathered and popped the ball to Isiah Martin who ran through to score.

After a home converted try, Worcester built a solid lead through a short-range pick-and-go try by Martin and another by Terry in the corner.

Good pressure from Hereford in the Worcester 22 was rewarded with a penalty in front of the posts, bringing the score to 21-10.

But the visitors then fired the ball down the back line through four sets of hands leading to Tyrese Semper scoring in the corner for a 28-10 half-time lead.

Worcester scored quickly again from the restart after Hereford knocked on and Terry chipped through with the ball sitting up for Alex Jones who drove over to score.

Following a few phases of forward play, George Boyle drove through several players to score.

A solid Worcester scrum five metres from the Hereford line was then picked up by Jones and he bustled through into the corner to score.

Worcester had supremacy in the scrum and drove Hereford back before the ball was fired out to the backs for Leo Jamous to score under the posts.

A Hereford restart was then caught by Jamous who ran the length of the field to dive under the posts for the final score.

Alex Terry and Jacob Morgan Iqbal shared kicking duties, getting seven out of nine conversions.

Worcester progress to the second round in February.
