SEVENTY Worcester Golf and Country Club ladies welcomed their new section captain Stella Wood to her position.

The annual match saw the ladies’ honorary secretary’s team beat the lady captain’s team 7-6 with four games halved.

Beforehand, Jenny Gadd presented a plant to Wood and club captain Sammy Woodward handed over a bouquet.

Wood then proceeded to drive her ball straight down the middle of the first fairway in the traditional drive-in.

The men’s turkey trot competition season opened with a better-ball stableford which saw an eye-catching score returned.

Past captain Tony Sanders (6 handicap) and Martin Lewis (10) notched 49 points between them for the highest stableford return for many a year with six birdies and two nett eagles.

Woodward and Phil Campbell scored 45, Duncan Macpherson and Sean Lloyd 44 and Darren Phillips and Dave Goodall 44 in Division One.

In Division Two, Dave Jones and Paul Bell won with 45 from Lucien DeLorenzo and Dave Hawthorn on 45, Geoff Tyler and Ray Morton-Allworthy on 44 and Scott Stevens and Nigel Webb on 44.

A better-ball medal then saw Stuart Duddell and Keith Weale take first spot with 62 nett.

Dean Napper and Mark Hamer scored 63, Simon Hobbs and Simon Pettifer 64 and Dave Humphries and Ray Morton-Allworthy 65.
