WORCESTER'S Max Lannie and Harrison Wagstaff have won English Pool Association junior eight-ball squad places.

They impressed at trials in Leicester with five victories out of seven matches under world rules.

The Worcestershire aces, both 16, progressed from around 74 under 18s with only eight squad spots available.

They qualified after making the region's top eight which also covers Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and the West Midlands.

Ronkswood-based Lannie was the youngest player to win the Worcester League's senior singles in 2017.

Along with his dad Wayne, he helped league winners Maple Leaf to the EPA's Champions of Champions semi-finals last November.

Wagstaff, of Fernhill Heath, goes to the Heart of Worcestershire College.

The duo now have internal England trials ahead of June's World Championships in Blackpool, September's Home Internationals and October's European Nations Cup.

County secretary Phil Green said: "They've been brought up with some decent players in Worcestershire which has helped improve them no end.

"Max and Harrison are adults before their time and beat men at pool. They will improve further."

The county juniors, including Lannie and Wagstaff who will also play for the under 23s this year, are sponsored by McDonald's.
