WORCESTER St John’s riders excelled at prestigious cycling competitions.

Simon Garrett made the top 10 of the Stratford CC 10-mile event in 20 minutes 48 seconds.

Carl Dee won the prestigious Echelon road race at Welland and honorary club member Marcus Walker claimed his category.

Seven Saints did well in the Little Mountain 37-mile time trial from Shelsley Walsh.

Star of the day at the Stratford 10 was Martin Stanley with a new 90-second personal best of 23.38.

Simon Adcook's 22.05 scraped into the top 20 while Paul Guest, returning after flu, achieved 22.35 and Nic Bradburn, riding with gears this year, did 24.01.

Second claim member Ollie Morgan, now riding for Team Echelon, did a PB of 21.28.

The Echelon road race involved three laps of the Welland circuit covering 49 miles.

Jason Meyer won the A/B race but Worcester St John’s Ade Bird was fourth A category and Steve Lewis sixth B.

Dee thrilled in the C/D race in a bunch sprint finish.

Richard Graham was seventh, Rob Nicholls ninth and Richard Rollason 10th.

Walker broke away on lap two of the E/F/G race and was joined by a second rider who he beat in the final sprint.

At Beacon Road Cycling Club's Little Mountain time trial, Mark Corbett posted the best Worcester St John’s time with one hour 40 minutes four seconds and was fourth in the vets.

Ed Dursley did 1.53.59 while 16-year-old Dylan Perkins impressed for his age.

New member Richard Allcock did 1.54.41 on a road bike and Adrian Murray improved on his 2017 time with 1.56.18.

Justin Barnett clocked 2.07.59 and Dave Walker struggled up the hills to post 2.04.32.

Worcester St John's held up a two-up team time trial at Severn Stoke over 10 miles.

Adcook and Garrett won in 22.03 seconds from Mark Daffin and Joel Turvey in 22.35.

Joint third were David Pardoe and Martin Lines and Nicholls and Corbett in 22.38.

The fastest solo rider was Jez Pile from Team Echelon in 22.36.

It was a medal qualifying ride for Nick Bent, Rick Allen, Sean Dyson, Perkins and Rosalind Townsend-Hope.

Meanwhile, Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club's spring road race is on Sunday from Martley Sports Centre over a fast Broadheath course.

The men will cover 56 miles from 10am and the women do 48 miles from 1.30pm.
