THE Worcestershire Golf Club recorded a 3-0 victory over Bransford in the Droitwich Shield semi-finals.

In scratch foursomes matchplay, both Steven Lane with Phil Shurmer and Tom Howells with Jason Allies won 5&4 while Dave Marshall and Peter Lupino triumphed 4&3.

The final is at Blackwell on Sunday.

In the ladies' Hollins Cup, Cath Francis was the only player under par on a blustery, chill day.

A birdie at the par four second, traditionally hard to come by, was followed by another at the par three eighth.

The competition scratch score for the day rose to 76 which meant a handicap reduction for Francis to 5.2.

Jen Bishop and Ursula Pearson finished two back with 32 stableford points.

Francis’ playing partner Jill Brierly recorded 30 to win Division Two ahead of Liz Pool with 28 and Pauline Savage with 27.

In the nine-hole stableford, Jennifer Musson headed Pauline Taylor on countback with 15 points and Evelyn Hill was third with 13.

The sun shone brightly allowing several under-par scores to be returned in the veterans stableford.

The best was in Division Two from Richard Kay who recorded seven pars in his five-under-par round of 41 stableford points and reduced his handicap to 17.

Tony Cox and Roger Blackwell both returned with 39 to make up the top three.

In Division One, Peter Hill recorded eight pars to top the table with 37.

Barry Caswell, despite a two at the par three 15th, finished with 36 and Ian Belsham was third with 35.

In the men’s April medal, 14 players made the most of the better course conditions and returned scores under par.

In Division One, Steve Bradshaw recorded 12 pars and a birdie to finish with nett 68.

Ralph Kelsall got 69 and Dave Tucker 70.

Jon Lane headed Division Two with 66 from Tony Cox with 68 and Simon Clayson with 70.

Division Three was also won with 66, this time from John Goodwin ahead of Edward Gaynor-Smith with 71 and Michael Morris with 72.
