WORCESTER City ABC boxers were in action at the Royal Navy Schools Midlands semi-finals in Coventry.

Schoolboy Trent Smith won through to the Midlands final by beating Tom Cowling of Bracebridge in a hard-fought battle.

Smith was the taller of the two and put his reach advantage to good use, pumping out straight punches against an aggressive pressure fighter from Bracebridge.

Smith beat his opponent to the punch throughout the contest, scoring well with sharp jabs to the head.

Cowling kept the pressure on for the whole contest and apart from an untidy first round of holding, Smith was in command.

Good use of the ring, along with neater boxing skills was enough to see him through to the finals on a unanimous points margin.

Boxing against the reigning schoolboy champion Jake Burridge of Chelmsley Wood, Worcester schoolboy Usman Multoni knew he was in for a hard contest.

Working behind a straight left jab, Multoni did well to keep pace with Burridge and came out better on several occasions during the early exchanges.

Experience began to show, however, with the Chelmsley Wood boy beginning to take over as the bout progressed.

Multoni showed great spirit and determination but it was Burridge who won on points.
