FULL-BACK Sophie Watkiss has become the first Worcester ladies junior member to win selection for the England under 20s squad.
The Sixways youngster, who plays for the Worcester ladies under 18s and West Midlands under 19s, has been named in the number 15 jersey to take on France under 20s on Sunday, March 21, at Sainte Nazaire (1pm).
Worcester ladies under 18s head coach Jem Porteous said: “This is the first selection we have had at this age group, while still technically a junior. As Sophie’s coach for the last two seasons, I am absolutely delighted about her selection and really proud of her.
“She has worked incredibly hard to achieve this and we are convinced she will continue to improve and move to the senior side.”
Watkiss, a pupil at Dean Close School, Cheltenham, is joined in the England under 20s team by fellow Worcester player Amy Millar. Hartpury College pupil Millar has been selected to start at second row.
