12-goal mauling sees Lions roar up to top spot

LENCHES Lions moved to the top of Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League Division Three with a 12-goal thumping of Gardeners Arms.

Davies (5), Johns (3), B Davies (2) and Evans (2) scored the goals for the villagers, while a first-half Tarling strike earned Tewkesbury Town the points at Badsey Recreation.

Phil Davies hit a treble for Bear with further goals from Miles and Scrivens as they overcame Wickhamford Sports 5-3 with Mallory, Gibbons and Griffiths replying.

Pebworth and Black Bear Reserves drew 1-1 with Reading and Chew on target respectively.

Ambassador, with games in hand, are beginning to make a serious promotion push in Division Four as Cox and Haines hit trebles in a comfortable 10-0 win at Oberthur. Peters and Pokorski both hit hat-tricks for leaders Broadway United Reserves as they defeated Cider Mill Reserves 6-1 with Williams pulling a goal back.

Pershore Athletic are second following an 8-3 win over Sun Inn as Worthington (3), Ridings (2), Croft, Gullick and Ward swooped.

Badger and Smith struck in the second-half to earn Elmley Castle the points at Trumpet.

A Riscoska goal was enough to give Stour Excelsior Reserves the win over Alcester Town, while Anchor Harriers and George and Dragon shared four goals.

Division Two leaders Alderton suffered a three-goal defeat at Evesham WMC with the goals coming from Ford, Grady and Spencer. Defford & Besford United moved top with a 2-1 victory at Stour Excelsior, thanks to goals from Ward and Marsden. Carr replied.

Malone (3), McElroy (2) and Bostock scored as Eckington overcame Ashton-under-Hill 6-1.

Offenham Rovers led at the interval with goals from Cresswell, Layden and Barnes only for visitors Bredon to earn a draw through Diamond (2) and Mills.

Cheltenham Saints defeated Offenham Park Rangers 3-2 with goals from Jacks, Jenkins and Gibbs. Rangers replied through Cumberland and Keen.

In Division One, Honeybourne Gate Inn and Broad- way United shared 10 goals in an entertaining match.

Brookes and Sherry both netted twice for Honeybourne with Marc Jeffs hitting a treble for Broadway.

Matt Tye (2) and Gabb were on target as Mickleton Rangers won 3-1 against Golden Cross for whom Smaylen scored.

Bretforton Old Boys moved third with a seven-goal win at Cider Mill.

Red Horse completed the quarter-final line up in the Evesham Mechanical Service Knock-out Cup with Staley (2), Harris and Duncan scoring as they beat WMK 5-1.

In the Express-Funding Mick Godwin Cup, Tesco United defeated Fladbury Athletic 2-1, thanks to a Williams double.

Favourites Black Bear reached the last eight, winning 5-2 at AC Olympia with goals from Petitt (2), Arnold, Driscoll and Hill.
