TWO Royal Grammar School, Worcester, pupils have been selected for the 2012 England under 15 fencing team.
Alix Turley, aged 15, and Danielle Lawson, 14, will represent their country at the 35th international children’s fencing tournament, the ‘Wratisavia Challenge’, to be held in Poland in March.
The 12-strong squad was based on the final England under 15 epee ranking list for 2011.
After placing seventh in round two of the elite epee junior series, Turley, who won the England U13 championships last year, is now fourth on the list, while Lawson holds eighth position.
Lawson said: “I am so proud to have been chosen to represent my country. Having the opportunity to fence outside of the UK is very exciting and I am looking forward to being part of the team.”
Turley added: “This is such a great opportunity. I believe this is another step towards fulfilling my ambition of fencing for Great Britain in the Olympics.”
Their coach Nick Chapman said: “I’m delighted that all the effort and hard work Alix and Danielle have put in over the last two years has paid off. The tournament will be a wonderful opportunity for them to gain international experience.”
