King's in last four after win

KING’S School Worcester survived a dramatic finale to their Daily Mail Cup quarter-final at Cheshire’s Wilmslow High School to secure a place in the last four of the prestigious national competition.

Leading 15-13 going into the final play of the game, King’s were penalised on their own 22 and it seemed this year’s dream was over, but the home kicker pushed his effort wide and the Worcester side secured victory.

King’s will now face either Cheshire’s Lymm High School or West Midlands rivals Oldswinford Hospital in the semi-final at Coventry’s Broadstreet club on March 10 with the chance of securing a Twickenham final showdown against the winners of the Dulwich College and St Joseph’s Ipswich tie.

An early infringement by Wilmslow saw George Kitching open the scoring in the sixth minute with a penalty, but the hosts soon levelled.

Following a concerted spell of pressure from the home side, King’s fell off a couple of tackles and Wilmslow’s left wing scored, although the conversion was missed.

A fine back-row move from King’s created space for Michael Allen to feed wing Alex Osborn to level.

After the break, Wilmslow upped the pressure and King’s Zac Bailey was sin-binned for repeated offences at the ruck.

Down to 14 men with 10 minutes to go, King’s did all they could to resist the Wilmslow pressure, but the home side’s centre scored.

King’s scrum-half George De-Cothi found George Jevons-Fellows, who battered his way over the line.

Kitching put King’s two points ahead with the conversion, before the late drama of Wilmslow’s penalty miss.

Great to see our local scholls performing so well. Just demonstrates the massive rugby talent that Worcester is currently producing.
Great to see that people in Worcester recognise that Rugby is the mans game, not football where players seasons are ended due to a muddy forehead or a twisted eyelash.

Rugby is about 17.6 times better than football. I hear Ronaldo's out for 8 weeks because his fake tan was 1/2 grade too brown.
