Lyness hopes for full recall

KEEPER Dean Lyness wants his penalty-saving exploits against Luton Town to earn him a permanent recall to the Kidderminster Harriers team.

Lyness returned to the side for Tuesday’s FA Trophy third-round clash at Aggborough in place of the cup-tied Tony Breeden and is keen to keep his place.

Although Harriers lost 2-1 to their fellow Blue Square Bet Premier play-off hopefuls, the 20-year-old shone with a fine save to deny Stuart Fleetwood’s first-half spot-kick.

Breeden, Kidderminster’s first choice since arriving from Leamington earlier this season following a long-term injury to Danny Lewis, is available again for today’s league trip to Tamworth (3pm) so manager Steve Burr has plenty of food for thought.

“It was great to get a game and hopefully I’ve done myself some justice,” said Lyness, who has been restricted to only Trophy games following Breeden’s run of form.

“I experienced playing in the team earlier in the season but Tony came in and has been outstanding.

“He hasn’t done much wrong since coming into the team and part and parcel of being a goalkeeper is that there’s only one place to fight for.

“We’re good mates off the field and push each other.”

There is likely to be a pitch inspection at Tamworth today depending on overnight conditions.

Meanwhile, Harriers winger Robbie Thompson-Brown has extended his loan at Solihull Moors until Monday, March 5.

Harriers’ match against Telford United, cancelled because of the Trophy match against Luton, will take place at the New Bucks Head on Tuesday, March 13 (7.45pm).
