Robust United in training regardless of bad weather

FREEZING temperatures might currently be gripping the country, but Hereford United have been carrying on regardless.

With pitches under snow or frozen solid, the Bulls have kept themselves in tip-top shape by training on the 3G all-weather surface at The Hereford Academy, Marlbrook Road.

It has allowed their schedule to continue as normal rather than being confined to the gym during the recent cold snap.

Manager Jamie Pitman is glad the weather has caused minimal disruption to his players’ daily routine ahead of today’s League Two derby against Cheltenham Town at Edgar Street (3pm).

He said: “We have been able to use the new Hereford Academy where they have just put a new 3G pitch in. It’s really saved us in that respect.

“We have been able to do some good training. It’s very difficult for the smaller clubs to be able to train sometimes because we haven’t got the heat domes and the pitches are not looked after as well as they are at the top level.

“It’s an important link with the academy and we are grateful for it.”

On-loan Bournemouth striker Lyle Taylor is pushing for a Bulls debut today against Cheltenham, who are managed by former Kidderminster Harriers boss Mark Yates.

The match may be subject to a pitch inspection, depending on last night’s weather conditions, but was protected by covers during the week.

Meanwhile, Hereford’s league trip to Gillingham, postponed last Saturday, has been rearranged for Tuesday, February 28 (7.45pm).
