Olympics Day Two

- WELCOME to day two of the London 2012 Games.
- Almost all of our Dorset and New Forest Olympians are in action today... Here is their schedule...
- Poole's Dan Hunter kicks things off with GB's men's volleyball team when they take on Bulgaria at Earls Court around 9.30am.
- Sturminster Newton's William Fox-Pitt will be in action on day two of the Eventing, with the second round of dressage set to get under way at 10am.
- In sailing, Poole's Lucy Macgregor, Annie Lush and Kate Macgregor begin their women's match racing campaign in Weymouth and Portland, while Lymington's Ben Ainslie (Finn) and Sherborne's Andrew Simpson (Star) are also on the water. The sailing starts at midday.
- Later this afternoon, Poole's Zara Dampney will be in action at Horse Guards Parade in the women's beach volleyball (5.30pm), while Bournemouth's John Pearce and Sway's Dan McMillan make their Olympic debuts in the handball when GB take on France in the Copper Box at 7.30pm.
In the men's handball, Bournemouth's John Pearce and Sway's Dan McMillan became GB debutants but tasted a 44-15 defeat to reigning Olympic champions France....
To round up some results from earlier this evening, Poole's Zara Dampney and team-mate Shauna Mullin secured a 2-1 (17-21 21-14 15-13) win over Canada on their Olympic debuts.... Full story in tomorrow's Echo.
Looks like the official results are now saying Simpson and Percy were first in that second Star race.... That places them third overall after the first day.
That's almost it for today... We will update with results from the women's beach volleyball (Poole's Zara Dampney, 5.30pm) and the men's handball (Bournemouth's John Pearce and Sway's Dan McMillan, 7.30pm) later.

Fox-Pitt scores 44.10 in the dressage, which places him 16th individually and Great Britain third in the Team Eventing as it stands....

Lucy Macgregor, Annie Lush and Kate Macgregor are beaten in their second match race of the day - finished 12 seconds behind the Spanish crew.
They will be back on the water at around 4.05pm tomorrow against Portugal, before a second race against Australia at 5.05pm.
The gap between the match racing girls and the Spanish crew is now nine seconds at the final mark.... Race now to the finish.
'MacLush' have closed the gap to just six seconds at the second mark!
The Poole match racing girls are 12 seconds behind the Spainish crew at the first mark....

Ben Ainslie claims a second successive second-place finish in the Finn class - A good solid start for the Lymington man as he bids to defend his Olympic title.
'MacLush' due out for the second Elliott 6m match racing battle, this time against Spain, at around 3.40pm....
Andrew Simpson and Iain Percy finish 11th in the opening race of the Star class.... The Sherborne man and his helm will be disappointed with that.

Ainslie remains in second place, but much closer to the Dane in first, as the Finn fleet rounds the bottom mark.... Back up-wind now.

The Poole match racers WIN their opening race against Denmark - the girls were eight seconds clear at the finish.
The match racing girls have now extended their lead to 16 seconds over Denmark at the third mark.... Looking good for the Poole sailors.
'MacLush' lead the Danes by 10 seconds at the second mark in the match racing opener....
Poole's match racers are under way in the Elliott 6m class in Weymouth and are leading Denmark in their opening race on the Nothe course....

'MacLush's' opening match race against Denmark has also been delayed due to the weather. Race control are adjusting the courses for both the Star and Elliott 6m down in Weymouth....
Slight delay to the start of the Star class as the weather turns more like we've come to expect this summer..... Ben Ainslie due out for race two in the Finn class shortly as well.
Next out on the water in Weymouth is race one of the Star class, featuring Sherborne's Andrew Simpson and helm Iain Percy.

Poole's match racing trio, Lucy, Annie and Kate, will be under way in the Elliott 6m at around 1.30pm. Unlike the Finn and Star, the girls race against just one other boat in head-to-head clashes. 'MacLush' will be first out against the Danish boat of Lotte Pedersen, Susanne Boidin and Tina Gramkov, before clashing with the Spanish team of Tamara Echegoyen Dominguez, Sofia Toro Prieto Puga and Angela Pumariega Menendez in race two at around 3.30pm.

Absolutely fantastic defensive work from Hunter on that last play again but Bulgaria take the third set 26-24 and the match 3-0. Superb performance from Dan and the team.

Poole's Kate Macgregor, speaking yesterday ahead of the opening match racing round robin matches today, said: ''Hopefully we'll get the medal but it is really close between the top six at the moment.
"It could be anyone, to be honest. I think the Americans, Aussies, French, Russians and us are all really close.
"To be honest it could be any of us, but we hope to get the medal."
Speaking yesterday, ahead of today's opening Finn class races, Ben Ainslie said: "I am ready to go. I am looking forward to racing and hope things go well.''It was good out there today. It was a great breeze, perfect sailing conditions.
''It is an interesting course that medal race course (Nothe Course). It is pretty tricky so tomorrow starting off there will be a tough race.
''It is cramped out there. I think you've just got to be more prepared for the difficult conditions and know it won't be perfect.
''You've just got to deal with it and prepare for a bit of a scrap.''

Our Olympians have been busily tweeting this morning.... Here are a selection....
Dan Hunter will be on court at Earls Court in around 10 minutes.... He is Team GB's libero, which means he is the defensive specialist playing in the different coloured vest.
