England Women’s captain Heather Knight has been named on a newly established players’ committee convened by the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations.

FICA, the collective union for players on the world stage, have named a panel of high-profile players and administrators who will hold teleconferences on an annual basis and communicate on an informal basis throughout the year.

Knight is the only current England international on on the list, though Vikram Solanki is also involved in his role as FICA president.

New Zealand’s Ross Taylor, Australia’s Aaron Finch and JP Duminy of South Africa are among those to take part in the project, with retired pair Kumar Sangakkara and Graeme Smith also named.

The captains of Ireland and Scotland, William Porterfield and Kyle Coetzer, will carry the torch for associate cricket.

Former Black Caps skipper Taylor said: “It’s important that player views are heard and contribute to the future of the game. Through FICA and our players’ associations, we want to continue to lead some thinking on important areas in the game and the formation of these committees is a great step for players collectively around the world.”
