SEAN Geddes is no stranger to being in the spotlight when it comes to the FA Cup.

Not every player in non-league football gets to experience the thrill of the first round proper, not to mention any further rounds, but Worcester City’s pint-sized attacking midfielder has done it on two occasions.

The 22-year-old was part of the Stourbridge team that reached the second round both last season and in the 2011-12 campaign.

Each time, the Glassboys were beaten by Football League opposition in Stevenage but they won the admiration of many for flying the non-league flag among the professional teams.

Geddes enjoyed personal success by scoring a penalty in the 3-3 first-round draw at Plymouth Argyle in November 2011, with Stourbridge winning the replay 2-0.

He was suspended for the Stevenage clash that year but got his chance in last season’s rematch, which again went the way of the high-ranked Borough.

This term Geddes has already made his mark in the famous competition for his new employers after scoring twice in the 3-1 second qualifying round victory over Rugby Town last month.

No doubt he will be fired up to repeat that feat when the Blue and Whites head to Vanarama Conference North rivals Leamington on Saturday in search of a victory to move within a round of the first round proper themselves.

Geddes’ brace took his total to four goals in seven games for City and his presence in the team has been a telling factor in their upturn in fortunes.

While it would be wrong to attribute everything City have done well since his arrival to Geddes, it is difficult to argue that he hasn’t made a significant impact.

He has balanced the team in the final third and given confidence to those around him, with Daniel Nti also back among the goals.

Carl Heeley’s side have taken 10 points from the six games Geddes has started, compared to seven from the first seven fixtures.

The former Manchester United youth team player was added to the mix to end City’s goal drought and it has so far worked.

Worcester have scored 10 goals in all competitions since Geddes’ arrival but had managed just five prior to his switch from the Memorial Ground.

Along with George Williams, he also inspired a City away victory for the first time in seven attempts this season with the second goal in last Saturday’s 2-1 success at Gainsborough Trinity.

More of the same and Heeley’s side will do their chances of staying in the division’s top 10 for a while yet no harm at all.

But first there is the small matter of the cup as City aim to reach the final qualifying round for the third year running.

Beyond that, who knows?

Can Geddes write another chapter in his impressive FA Cup story?
