BIG-hitting Worcestershire batsman Ross Whiteley scooped an honour last night at the Professional Cricketers' Association annual awards in London.

Whiteley bagged the Sky Sports Sixes Award after a destructive summer for the County in which he was rewarded with a four-year contract at New Road.

The former Derbyshire player cracked 29 sixes in Worcestershire Rapids’ NatWest T20 Blast campaign which ended in the gloom after a quarter-final defeat against Hampshire.

Whiteley hammered 11 of those sixes in a sensational innings of 91 not out off 35 balls against Yorkshire Vikings at Headingley in a match screened live on Sky Sports.

He also made an impact with the bat in the LV= County Championship and was a consistent threat to opposing bowlers throughout the summer.

However, there was disappointment for Worcestershire and England all-rounder Moeen Ali, who missed out on selection for the PCA team of the year.
