WORCESTERSHIRE captain Daryl Mitchell has teamed up with the Worcester News to host tonight’s Question of Sport quiz evening.

The Badsey-born opening batsman, rewarded for his loyalty with a benefit year this season, has played 148 first-class matches for Worcestershire, scoring more than 9,000 first-class runs at an average of 39.38 and 2,572 List A runs at 33.40.

Mitchell, pictured above, became the first Worcestershire captain born inside the county since Maurice Foster in 1925 when appointed to the position full-time at the end of 2010.

He progressed through the academy to make his first-class debut for the County in May 2005 against Loughborough UCCE at Kidderminster.

Mitchell skippered them to promotion to County Championship Division One in 2010, when he took over from Vikram Solanki, and in 2014.

He has hit 21 first-class centuries with a career-best 298 in the penultimate Championship game of 2009 against Somerset at Taunton.

Mitchell enjoyed a run of 68 consecutive Championship games, which was ended by a hamstring injury last season.

The Worcester News are teaming up with the 32-year-old for the Question of Sport quiz evening, starting at around 7.30pm after the second day’s play against Kent in the Graeme Hick Pavilion, New Road.

It will begin with a County team led by Mitchell taking on their Kent counterparts, captained by their beneficiary Darren Stevens.

BBC Hereford and Worcester presenter Dave Bradley hosts the evening, which also includes a sports quiz for everyone.
