MOEEN Ali is backing Mitchell Santner to be a success as Worcestershire's NatWest T20 Blast overseas signing this summer.

England all-rounder Moeen saw close up the effectiveness of Santner for New Zealand during the recent ICC World T20 in India.

The spinner finished with 10 wickets from his five appearances in the tournament for the Black Caps.

He is due to link up at New Road next month in time for the start of the County's North Group programme.

Moeen said: "He is a very good signing. I think there are some brilliant signings throughout the sides in general for this year's T20 Blast.

"I think they are top drawer but he is a very good player as we saw in the World Cup. He is young and does a bit of everything so hopefully he will play a big role in our T20 side.

"He spins the ball, he gets good dip. I think it is going to be good for him and also good for Worcestershire.

"He will settle in. There is no overseas player who comes here and struggles to settle into our changing room.

"I'm sure he will settle in well."

Moeen did not get the chance to welcome Santner to New Road when England faced New Zealand in the ICC World T20 semi-final in India.

He said: "When we played against New Zealand, he was dead serious. I wanted him to welcome him but it looked like he was in the zone so I didn't bother."
