MOEEN Ali continued his fine summer with the bat for England in Test cricket with his performances in the four-match Investec Series.

The Worcestershire all-rounder is currently preparing for the forthcoming ODIs against Pakistan.

But in a quiet moment he will be able to reflect with satisfaction on what he has achieved with the bat and, to a certain extent, with the ball in the longer format of the game.

Moeen followed up his 155 in the series against Sri Lanka at Durham by making 316 runs at an average of 63.20 against Pakistan.

Only Yorkshire’s Joe Root obtained a better average than the Birmingham-born 29-year-old, despite him continuing to bat in the lower order.

Moeen admitted to being “embarrassed” to the way he got out to spinner Yasir Shah in the second innings at Lord’s after dancing down the wicket.

And his response to that was scores of 63 and 86 not out at Edgbaston and 108 at The Oval.

On the bowling front, he ended the Pakistan series as third highest wicket-taker with 11 and included some big-name scalps, although he would have liked an average lower than 44.54.

Now, after the white-ball cricket of the next couple of weeks, Moeen can look forward to seven more Tests before Christmas – two against Bangladesh and five in India.
