JOSH Tongue produced his first five-wicket haul on his Specsavers County Championship debut as Worcestershire hammered Glamorgan by eight wickets with five sessions to spare at the SWALEC Stadium.

The 19-year-old finished with the superb figures of 5-45 from 10 overs as he followed up his two wickets on Saturday with another three today.

Glamorgan, who resumed on 141-3, lost their last seven wickets for 82 runs in 20.5 overs and were bowled out for 223.

That left Worcestershire a target of just 28 as they picked up a maximum 24 points haul from their opening game of the season.

Tongue spent the winter recuperating after undergoing back surgery in September.

But bowling coach Matt Mason recently described Tongue as a "little diamond" and the Redditch born Academy product certainly sparkled against the Glamorgan batsmen.

There were many plus points for Worcestershire to saviour from their two and a third days action in Cardiff.

Overseas signing John Hastings made an encouraging debut after his winter patella surgery with five wickets in the game and a half century.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore made a century after his shoulder surgery and there were contributions from most of the batsmen and bowlers and some razor sharp fielding and catching.

Joe Leach will also be delighted to launch his official reign as captain with such an emphatic victory.

Now Worcestershire will also have Moeen Ali to add into their plans for the opening home Championship clash against Northamptonshire at New Road on Friday.

It was Leach who made the first breakthrough of the day as keeper Ben Cox held onto a good catch to dismiss Colin Ingram (42).

Hastings trapped Chris Cooke lbw for a single and then Tongue took centre stage.

Kieran Carlson (17) nicked through to Cox and Aneurin Donald (57) was held at gulley by Hastings two balls after needing treatment after being struck on the helmet.

Tongue secured his fifth wicket with his next delivery as Marchant de Lange (0) departed to a good catch in the slips by Daryl Mitchell.

Jack Shantry quickly wrapped up the innings as Lukas Carney (5) gave Cox his fourth catch of the innings and Michael Hogan (2) perished to Ed Barnard at mid off four balls later.

Shantry finished with 2-32, Hastings 2-67 and Leach 1-58.

Worcestershire lost a couple of wickets before reaching their modest target.

Mitchell (1) tried to cut Carey and perished to a good catch by Nick Selman at slip with nine on the board.

Two runs later Brett D'Oliveira (9) was caught and bowled by Hogan before Tom Fell and Joe Clarke wrapped up victory before a delayed lunch.
